Safdarjung, who once ruled Awadh and held significant influence in the court of Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah during the early 1700s, was honored with this mausoleum after his passing in 1754. His son had the structure built in his memory. Today, the tomb is regarded as one of the last major Mughal garden style monuments in Delhi, noted for its sandstone front, prominent dome, and well planned charbagh layout.
